EN “Pés Que Sonham Ser Cabeças” is the fifth album of the Mesa project, led by João Pedro Coimbra, and the first to feature the Voice of Rita Reis, vocalist who replaced Mónica Ferraz in 2012, released on May 13, 2014, by Sony Music. The band has always been known for being one of the most stimulating on the national scene, and this time they risked new paths and decided to embark on a style that manages to unite pop, electronics, jazz, and even classical music.
For the promotion of the album the band decided to start with the track “Independente Desconhecido”, which begins with some sort of bells that reminds us of a wedding or similar, starting with a more electronic sound, accompanied by a guitar, in the style of Goldfrapp, as well as the vocals themselves, which are accompanied by some effects. The track is contagious, and it is an excellent choice for the first single, getting the verses “Gira, que gira e torna a girar / dois dias e uma linha que te faça mudar.“ stuck in our memory. Then comes the single “Moral”, which takes us to the past, in a sound like a more relaxed and danceable David Bowie, and without a doubt that what stands out most in this track, besides its chorus, is the unmistakable keyboard.
“És sensual sem ponta de moral / Não tens modos mas não faz mal / És um animal, o meu chicote estala / Preparo os adereços que trago na mala”
Finally, we have the release of a double single, the ballad “Sinto” and the re-recording of the track “Cedo o meu Lugar”. The singer herself, Rita Reis, admits that as soon as she heard “Sinto” for the first time, she got a “little tear” in her eye, and there is no reason for less, the track is one of my favorites from the album, starting with the breathtaking verses “Se eu amo e não posso dizer / E sei que com esta canção tu nunca vais saber”. In turn, “Cedo O Meu Lugar”, was re-recorded from the original album ”Automático“ (2011), and it seems that it serves as a response to the previous track, having phrases such as “Cedo o meu lugar a quem te mereça / … / Mas a seguir peço para voltar / É que eu gosto mesmo de ti”. It was probably the two tracks of the project that got the most prominence, and all this because they were part of the soundtrack of the soap opera of TVI “O Beijo do Escorpião”, serving the latter even as the generic of the soap.
From the album we can also highlight the “Noite de Bruxas”, which has an ensemble of 10 musicians, “Ser Urbano”, where there is room for trumpet, trombone, tuba, violin, viola, cello, guitar, bass, drums and keys, and “Máquinas em Construção”, where the tuba takes the turn of the electric bass - are some of the examples where you can feel this desire to “dress” the songs of a transformist character.
"Pés que sonham ser cabeças" is the most ambitious of the band's career and has an extensive guest list. In it, Rita Reis has a voice capable of giving body and soul to the lyrics and melodies of João Pedro Coimbra, able to feel the songs as her own, giving them identity and giving them a sense of urgency in sharing. However, it is worth noting that the voice of Mónica Ferraz is somewhat missing, who chose to pursue a solo career, but I think that Rita Reis's voice was an excellent complement to the band, and this has been visible till this day.
