EN "An Offer from a Gentleman” by Julia Quinn is the third book in the well-known Bridgerton saga, in which we have the protagonist of the second heir of the family, Benedict Bridgerton. Originally published in 2001, this book was only published in Portugal in April 2013 by Edições ASA. Once again we have the author dazzling us with a well-structured novel, with a story with traces of the classic Cinderella, which leaves us completely enchanted with such pleasurable readings. This is, without a doubt, my favorite book in the saga.

This “fairytale” begins when Sophie Beckett decides to infiltrate Lady Bridgerton's masquerade ball, going against the ideas of her stepmother, who makes every effort to disown her and hide her status as the earl's daughter. In addition, she also forces her to work as a servant, forcing Sophie to do household chores that would never be imposed if the earl were alive. At this ball, Sophie meets her Prince Charming, Benedict, who makes her feel like a princess. But this magic lasts for a very short time and Sophie has to leave the dance at midnight. Benedict is completely enchanted by this mysterious woman at the ball and devotes all his time and effort to chase her, but that turns out to be an impossible task. Some time later, Sophie decides to run away from home and work as a servant in other houses to earn some money and support herself. In one of these houses, Benedict saves Sophie from a very unpleasant situation, without him realizing that she is the woman he has been chasing for a long time. And in reality, Benedict is confused because he realizes he is interested in this maid. But living between dream and reality is a very fine line that Benedic cannot distinguish, and the fact that he wants to find the woman at the ball makes him not readily recognize the woman in front of him.

“It suddenly made sense. Only twice in his life had he felt this inexplicable, almost mystical attraction to a woman. He’d thought it remarkable, to have found two, when in his heart he’d always believed there was only one perfect woman out there for him.”

I'm very biased but I devoured almost 400 pages in two days and it was so enjoyable. It really is a very good read, in which it captivates us from start to finish, with twists and turns so intoxicating that we adore the characters we cherish from other books and hate the obnoxious characters so much that we need to understand which ending is destined for them. This literary genre is passionate and I'm sure readers will be delighted with so many emotions and fun in the mix.
