EN Before any introduction I have to say that I was not expecting to like this book as much as I did. And this is because I didn't love the cover and, afterwards, all the covers I saw from this author. In my opinion, they aren't very original covers and could have had better designs. I even ended up finding them basic compared to the brilliant writing that's inside. Believe me when I tell you that I really loved the way this author developed the story and engages us in those scabrous sexual details that we thought would shock us, but we ended up wanting to read more and more.
“Bossman" by Vi Keeland was originally published on July 16, 2016, and a year later released by publisher Topseller in Portugal. This book falls into the category of erotic romance and, of course, is not advised to all readers, because, since it is a specific topic, not all people are interested in more graphic content, let's say so. It's not my case and I was quite impressed with the writer. Still, I have to point out that the translation is also very appealing which helps in the fluency of reading.
“Fear does not stop death. It stops life.”
Reese and Chase are the couple who star in the novel in this book. They meet in a restaurant where Reese is on a slightly boring date and when she goes to the bathroom and on the way out, she ends up asking her best friend to save her with some “emergency”, which Chase ends up hearing and condemning her attitude. Chase was also on a date and when they return to their tables, Chase takes his date to Reese's table and pretends that they have known each other for a long time, making up stories, which ends up making Reese's night more entertaining. Later, they meet again, and Chase realizes that Reese is looking for a job and then offers the services of a friend who can get jobs for other people. What Chase failed to mention is that this friend only recruited people to his own company, and because of that Reese ends up working at his company, making him become the “boss" as the title name indicates. In the development of the story, we see the romance of the two blossoming and the physical desire they feel for each other, difficult to disguise. And yet, we also can read little excerpts of Chase's past that makes us realize that there are deep marks in his life that can influence his future with Reese and damage their relationship in the present.
Although the book presents some similarities with the "50 Shades", this book can captivate more because of the language and the detailed erotic scenes have a softer touch, which honestly, I prefer. Obviously there were some clichés, but the fact that the Boss is described as some stereotyped perfect man, handsome, confident, charming, with power and success, and in reality has some traces that make him imperfect, gave more glow to the story. I have also to enhance the writing of Vi Keeland because I believe that made all the difference and distinguished this story from something standard and ordinary.
