EN For those who do not know, “Joanne”, the title of Lady Gaga's fifth album, comes from the name of her late aunt, Joanne Stefani Germanotta, who was very special to the singer, which makes the album related to family and the emotions of life. The album was released on October 21, 2016, and it was known that several reviews would be associated with the album, which is not news since the artist is already known for her controversy.
With this album, the singer decided to change her typical style a little, leaving the commercial pop sound and shifting for a more rock and country Style, adding a dash of her characteristic pop. This change generated many reviews, some positive and others negative, some because they no longer recognized the singer and stating that she had lost her charisma and her status in pop, while others stated that the change did the singer good and that it allowed the listeners to see certain details that had not been seen before, namely in terms of writing, since it is a very personal album.
To promote the album were released three singles. The first single was the track"Perfect Illusion", which ends up making the transition between the pop style of previous albums and this new style, also combining with rock. The singer's vocals are presented raw and without vocal effects, showing that a new era was arriving. Then, and probably the most successful single from the album, “Millions Reasons”, a country ballad that speaks of ephemeral love, through a simple track, accompanied only by a guitar and a piano. At last, the track “Joanne”, was released on December 22, 2017, which talks about her relationship with her aunt, eventually serving as the motto for the Grammy Awards, where the singer won the Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance.
It is not at all my favorite album of the singer, but there are a couple songs that won over my heart, specifically the singles and the tracks “Diamond Heart”, “A-Yo” e “John Wayne”, in which the latter got a music video directed by director Jonas Åkerlund, who had already worked with the singer for the music video “Telephone”, that ended partially incomplete, and everyone was expecting a follow-up video. In addition to this, the singer also worked with producer RedOne on the track “Angel Down”, which many were expecting a more danceable track, such as “Poker Face” or “Bad Romance”, but the track was just another ballad.
"Joanne" is not a bad album, but it fell far short of what the singer was constantly offering us, from powerful songs and catchy choruses, ending up being an album that lives only from its singles but nothing more than that.
