PT Não posso começar a analisar este livro sem dizer que a mensagem deste diário é tão poderosa que é impossível não terminarmos esta viagem, fazendo uma reflexão sobre a vida e sobre o mundo à nossa volta. Este livro é baseado numa história verídica, o que ainda dá um valor mais poderoso à sua mensagem.

"The Freedom Writers Diary" é composto por vários textos, ou entradas no diário, escritos pelos alunos de inglês e pela professora Erin Gruwell. Este grupo de alunos foram considerados problemáticos e atribuídos à Miss Erin Gruwell com a premissa que dificilmente conseguiria ensinar-lhes fosse o que fosse. Erin Gruwell demonstrou uma capacidade enorme de lidar com as adversidades, e conseguindo ver para além do estereótipo da sociedade, decidiu criar um diário em que os seus alunos poderiam partilhar as suas histórias, as suas lutas, os seus objetivos, os seus sentimentos, os seus medos, possibilitando-se de uma forma inovadora, de mostrar interesse pelos mesmos.

As histórias são duras, reais e muito impactantes mesmo. A maior parte desses alunos foram marginalizados de alguma forma, fosse pelos pais e família, pelos professores, pelos colegas, todos se encontravam na posição de contar algo traumatizante do seu passado. Fiquei extremamente revoltada com algumas partilhas. Para além de histórias de negligência e discriminação, tivemos também histórias de violência, abusos sexuais e físicos, algumas histórias sobre perda de familiares ou de amigos próximos. É preciso ter em mente que não podemos ler este livro levianamente. Envolve muitos temas difíceis de lidar atualmente e que a sociedade ainda não tem a capacidade de resolver. Ainda existem muitos casos de abusos, violência, gangues, drogas e, infelizmente, a maior parte das famílias são apanhadas nestes enredos.

Inicialmente estes jovens descredibilizaram esta professora, porque acreditavam que não tinha nada que lhes pudesse ensinar porque nunca tinha experienciado nada do que eles tinham vivido ou viviam. Só depois de Gruwell lhes ensinar sobre o Holocausto e de como o ódio e incompreensão tinham gerado vários episódios de guerra, é que esses jovens começaram a abrir-se mais com a professora e a mostrar interesse pelos seus próprios futuros.

Ao longo das aulas, Gruwell mostrou aos seus alunos livros como "Anne Frank: The Diary of a young girl" e o "Zlata's Diary: A Child's Life in Sarajevo" com o propósito de lhes dar inspiração com aquelas histórias de liberdade e sobrevivência. Esta professora tentou ao máximo mostrar-lhes que o futuro deles não tinha de ser negativo, simplesmente eles tinham de lutar contra esse estereótipo.

O livro é brilhante por toda a mensagem de força que tenta mostrar. Aconselho a qualquer pessoa que queira saber mais sobre outras realidades, mais negligenciadas e sem possibilidades de mais fáceis na vida.

EN I cannot begin to analyze this book without saying that the message of this diary is so powerful that it is impossible not to end this journey by reflecting on life and the world around us. This book is based on a true story, which still gives a more powerful value to its message.

"The Freedom Writers Diary" is composed of various texts, or journal entries, written by students and their teacher Erin Gruwell. This group of students were considered problematic and assigned to Miss Erin Gruwell on the premise that she would hardly be able to teach them anything. Erin Gruwell showed an enormous ability to deal with adversities and being able to see beyond the stereotype of society, she decided to create a diary in which her students could share their stories, their struggles, their goals, their feelings, their fears, making it possible in an innovative way to show interest in them.

The stories are hard, real, and very impactful. Most of these students were marginalized in some way, whether by parents and family, or by teachers, or by classmates, all of them were able to tell something traumatizing about their past. I was extremely angry at some of the stories told. In addition to stories of neglect and discrimination, we also had stories of violence, sexual and physical abuse, some stories of loss of family members or close friends. It must be kept in mind that we cannot read this book lightly. It involves many issues that are difficult to deal with nowadays and that society does not yet have the capacity to solve. There are still many cases of abuse, violence, gangs, drugs and, unfortunately, most families are caught up in these plots.

Initially these young people discredited this teacher, because they believed that she had nothing that could teach them because she had never experienced anything of what they had lived or were still living. It was only after Gruwell taught them about the Holocaust and how hatred and misunderstanding had generated several episodes of war that these young people began to open to the teacher and show interest in their own futures.

Throughout the lessons, Gruwell showed her students books such as "Anne Frank: The Diary of a young girl" and "Zlata's Diary: A Child's Life in Sarajevo" with the purpose of giving them inspiration with those stories of freedom and survival. This teacher tried her best to show them that their future did not have to be negative, they simply had to fight against that stereotype.

The book is brilliant because of the message of strength it tries to show. I recommend this to anyone who wants to know more about other realities, more neglected and without possibilities of an easier life.
