Noites Brancas/White Nights (Fyodor Dostoevsky)

PT Este livro foi-me oferecido por um dos grandes amores da minha vida e foi um dos melhores romances que li até hoje. Devorei o livro em dois dias porque me senti completamente absorvida no enredo e não consegui parar até o terminar.

Estabelecido em St. Petersburg, este romance conta-nos uma história de amor de um jovem por uma mulher que vai conhecendo ao longo de quatro noites numa ponte sobre o rio Neva. Mesmo sabendo que essa mulher amava e esperava outro homem, este jovem decidiu conhecê-la e reconhecer que o tempo que passava com ela se convertia em momentos puros de felicidade e que nada na vida valia mais do que este sentimento.

Creio que o Dostoiévski desenvolveu este romance com o intuito de criar uma história de amor leve e de nos mostrar que mesmo os pequenos sentimentos de pequena duração, têm a capacidade de nos marcar para a vida toda. Acredito que algumas pessoas não acreditem que aquele sentimento fosse amor. Talvez lhe atribuam o sentimento de ilusão, no entanto, não somos ninguém para julgar e pôr em causa o que os outros estão a sentir. Há tantos fenómenos e características que tornam este livro tão especial que com o desenrolar da história entendemos o porquê do destino destas duas pessoas se entrelaçam.

“Sou um sonhador, tenho tão pouca vida real que momentos assim, como estes, me são tão raros que posso não deixar de reproduzi-lo em meus devaneios.”

A leitura é muito acessível e conseguimos sentirmo-nos atraídos pela magia do amor que o autor nos tenta transmitir. Por exemplo, o título “Noites Brancas” retrata o fenómeno de verão em que os dias se prolongam quase sem o sol se pôr na totalidade, isto é, não escurece. E se formos aprofundar um bocado esta análise podemos reparar no paralelismo que existe entre o que é breve e o que é eterno. O amor e a noite são eternos. O tempo deles juntos e a noite é fugaz.

É uma linda história, de nos fazer perder em sonhos.

EN This book was offered to me by one of the great loves of my life and it was one of the best novels I have read till this date. I devoured the book in two days because I felt completely absorbed in the storyline and I could not stop until I was finished.

Based in St. Petersburg, this novel tells us a love story of a young man for a woman he meets over four nights on a bridge above the Neva River. Even knowing that this woman loved and expected another man, this young man decided to meet her and recognize that the time he spent with her turned into pure moments of happiness and that nothing in life was worth more than this feeling.

I believe that Dostoevsky developed this novel in order to create a light love story and to show us that even small feelings of short duration, have the ability to mark us for our whole life. I believe that some people don't believe that feeling was love. You may attribute the feeling of fantasy to it, yet we are no one to judge and question the feelings of others. There are so many phenomena and characteristics that make this book so special that as the story unfolds we understand why the fate of these two people intertwine.

"I am a dreamer. I know so little of real life that I just can’t help re-living such moments as these in my dreams, for such moments are something I have very rarely experienced."

The reading is very accessible and we manage to feel attracted by the magic of love that the author tries to transmit to us. For example, the title “White Nights” portrays the summer phenomenon in which the days go on almost without the sun setting in altogether, which means, it does not darken. And if we go a little deeper into this analysis we can notice the parallelism that exists between what is brief and what is eternal. Love and Night are eternal. Their time together and the night are fleeting.

It's a beautiful story that can make us lose in our own dreams.
