folklore (Taylor Swift)

PT Desde o álbum homónimo da cantora Beyoncé que tem sido algo recorrente lançar álbuns de forma surpresa, o que acaba por ser algo fantástico para os fãs de música. Desta vez isso aconteceu com a cantora Taylor Swift, que nos entregou o seu “folklore” de forma inesperada a 24 de Julho deste ano, tão inesperado que nem a própria gravadora sabia do álbum até poucas horas antes do seu lançamento.

Composto em parceria com Aaron Dessner e Jack Antonoff, o álbum mostra-nos uma nova faceta de Taylor Swift, que deixa para trás o estilo pop que nos habituou desde 1989, aventurando-se agora num género de estilo alternativo, indie folk, que parece ter agradado a maior parte do público e críticos.

O primeiro single é a faixa “cardigan”, que retrata um amor perdido e o porquê do primeiro amor ficar sempre cravado nas nossas memórias, tal como é visível no próprio vídeo, como se existisse uma espécie de baú repleto de memórias escondidas, um baú que, por vezes, deveria ser mantido fechado.

“folklore” permite-nos viajar por entre várias histórias e personagens, que acabam por ser transversais entre faixas, como é o caso do triângulo amoroso vivido entre Betty, James e mais uma personagem feminina, do qual não sabemos o nome, e que ouvimos nas faixas “cardigan”, “august” e “betty”. O mais engraçado deste triângulo amoroso está no facto de que cada um tem o seu ponto de vista, em diferentes momentos das suas vidas, em cada uma das faixas. Ao mesmo tempo, o disco deixa-nos com uma sensação de nostalgia e contemplação, principalmente nas faixas “peace” e “epiphany”, uma sensação que ressoa perfeitamente com os tempos atuais em que vivemos.

Destacam-se para mim as faixas

“exile”, uma colaboração com o cantor Bon Iver, “hoax” e “this is me trying”, e, desta última, realço os seguintes versos “They told me all of my cages were mental / So I got wasted like all my potential”

Em última instância, não devemos deixar que nos aprisionem, devemos estar conscientes de que existem problemas mentais que devem ser tratados como uma doença e não deixarmos passar ao lado. Estes problemas devem ser abordados com naturalidade para que seja possível procurar uma solução. Todos devem ter uma mente aberta para entender a doença mental e tratá-la com respeito. O nosso potencial está aí, na abertura, na capacidade de nos libertarmos e de conversarmos, com quem quer que seja, porque tudo tem uma perspetiva que nos pode ajudar a olhar para a vida de forma positiva.

EN Since the self-titled album of the singer Beyoncé, it has been recurrent release albums suddenly, which turns out to be something fantastic for the music fans. This time it happened with the singer Taylor Swift, who gave us her "folklore" so unexpectedly on July 24 this year, that not even the label itself knew about the album until a few hours before its release.

The album, composed jointly with Aaron Dessner and Jack Antonoff, show us a new side of Taylor Swift, which leaves behind the pop style that we were familiar with since 1989. Now she is trying an alternative style genre, indie folk, which seems to have pleased most of the public critics.

The first single is "cardigan", that describes a lost love and explains why the first love is always carved in our memories, which is visible in the music video itself, as if there were a sort of chest full of hidden memories, a chest that sometimes should be kept closed.

"folklore" allows us to travel through several stories and characters, which end up being transversal between tracks, as is the case of the love triangle between Betty, James and another female character, of which we do not know the name, and which we hear on "cardigan", "august" and "betty". The funniest thing about this love triangle is that everyone has their point of view, at different times in their lives, in each of the tracks. At the same time, the album gives the feeling of nostalgia and wistfulness, especially on "peace" and "epiphany". This feeling resonates perfectly with the current times in which we live in.

For me, the tracks that stand out are

Ultimately, we must not let them imprison us, we must be aware that there are mental problems that must be treated as a disease and not be ignored. These problems must be approached naturally to find a better solution for the person involved. Everyone should have an open mind to understand mental illness and treat it with respect. Our potential is in our openness and in our ability to free ourselves, because everything has a perspective that can help us look at life in a positive way if we are willing to talk to everyone that crosses our path.
