PT Chegou finalmente o primeiro projeto a solo da cantora Lea Michele, que havia conquistado um vasto público a nível mundial devido ao enorme sucesso da série “Glee”. Graças aos seus fantásticos dotes vocais, era quase certo que este momento chegaria, mais cedo ou mais tarde, e a artista teria a oportunidade de exibir o quão exuberante seria a sua carreira musical.

O álbum foi sendo produzido entre 2012 e 2013 e estava quase pronto para ser iniciada a sua divulgação, com um suposto primeiro single agendado e uma data para lançamento em vista, mas todo o projeto foi colocado em stand-by devido ao falecimento do ator Cory Monteith, que era o namorado da cantora nessa altura, também ele um ator da série “Glee”.

Após o sucedido, houve algum tempo de pausa, o que levou a cantora a repensar a estrutura do álbum e isso deu origem a duas novas faixas, ambas compostas pela cantora Sia, o primeiro single do álbum “Cannonball” e “If You Say So”. Esta última música está conectada a Cory, sendo que o título da música era uma das frases mais usadas por parte dele para Lea. Inicialmente, “Cannonball” não era uma faixa para Lea, mas ela identificou-se com a mensagem da música e achava que ela refletia aquilo que ela sentia naquele momento. A própria referiu que “era a música perfeita para as pessoas ouvirem como primeiro single do álbum. Ela explica de forma explícita o sítio onde estou agora e é uma música muito inspiradora para mim. No minuto em que a ouvi, tive uma reação física a ela. Para mim, tem sido a minha força. Eu ouço-a todos os dias. Eu sei que ela apareceu na minha vida por uma razão. Tem sido muito útil para mim e espero que surta o mesmo efeito nas outras pessoas.”. Por outro lado, o segundo, e último single do álbum, foi a faixa “On My Way”, que já tem um estilo mais dançável e alegre, trazendo ainda a icónica frase do álbum “My heart's too drunk to drive”, sendo uma das minhas músicas preferidas do projeto.

Este álbum tem uma sensação agridoce associada a ele. Lembro-me de ouvir a música “Cannonball” numa fase um pouco conturbada da minha vida e em que as coisas não estavam nada fáceis, tanto ao nível da minha relação amorosa como ao nível dos meus estudos universitários. E quando foi lançado, em 2014, recordo-me de me ver refletido em várias das suas letras, pelo que tem um lugar muito especial para mim. Para muitos pode não ser o álbum de estreia ideal mas para mim tem toda a essência para ser uma excelente montra para o mundo, exibindo o potencial, já conhecido, da cantora e que muito ainda estava por vir.

EN Finally, the first solo project of singer Lea Michele came out, who had won a wide audience worldwide due to the huge success of the series “Glee”. Thanks to her fantastic vocal talents, it was almost certain that this moment would come, sooner or later, and the artist would have the opportunity to display how exuberant her musical career would be.

The album was being produced between 2012 and 2013 and was almost ready to be released, with a supposed first single scheduled and a release date in sight, but the entire project was put on hold due to the death of actor Cory Monteith, who was the singer's boyfriend at the time, also an actor in the series “Glee”.

After that, Lea took some time off, which led her to rethink the structure of the album and this gave birth to two new tracks, both composed by the singer Sia, the first single from the album “Cannonball” and “If You Say So”. The latter song is connected to Cory, and the title of the song was one of his most used phrases for Lea. Initially, "Cannonball" was not a track for Lea, but she identified with the message of the song and thought it reflected what she felt at that moment. The singer describes it like "It was the perfect song for people to listen to as the album's first single. It explicitly explains where I am right now and it's a very inspiring song for me. The minute I heard it, I had a physical reaction to it. For me, it's been my strength. I listen to it every day. I know the song came into my life for a reason. It has been very helpful to me and I hope it has the same effect on other people.”. On the other hand, the second, and last single of the album, was the track “On My Way”, which already has a more danceable and cheerful style, also bringing the iconic phrase of the album “My heart's too drunk to drive”, being one of my favorite songs of the project.

This album has a bittersweet feeling associated with it. I remember listening to the song “Cannonball" in a slightly troubled phase of my life and when things were not easy at all, meaning my love relationship and my university studies. And when it was released, in 2014, I remember seeing myself reflected in several of its lyrics, so it has a very special place for me. For many it may not be the ideal debut album but for me it has all the essence to be an excellent showcase for the world, exhibiting the potential, already known, of the singer and that much was still to come.
